Lake Mohave Camping
A day of peace and tranquility
We packed our bags and set off for the day, excited to explore the scenic beauty of Six Mile Cove and escape the noise of the city for a while. This cove is nestled just south of the little town of Searchlight, Nevada. As the tires of our little wander wagon met the long stretch of rustic road, we took in the plethora of Joshua trees that dotted the desert landscape surrounding us. These trees are not actually trees but rather yucca plants. They were named by Mormon settlers after Joshua from the Book of Mormon. Some species of this yucca have been known to live for over 500 years.
As we rounded the bend, we were greeted by the clearest blue, tranquil water. We put the van in park, jumped out, and began to explore the beautiful waterline at our doorstep. Several black-bellied plovers floated leisurely over the gentle waves, making their way to shore. As the waves rolled gently towards us, I felt a profound sense of relaxation and peace. A cool breeze filled the air, creating the perfect setting to enjoy our picnic lunch.
Folding down our convenient little picnic table, we took a seat, enjoyed our light lunch, and soaked in the picturesque mountains and water that surrounded us.
The following morning, we were greeted by a breathtaking sunrise that painted the lake with a shimmering reflection and adorned the clouds with stunning pastel hues. A large nearby tree swayed gently in the breeze as we savored our first cup of coffee. We spent the day talking to each other and enjoying our favorite books.
We are so pleased we took the short hour-and-a-half drive to explore Six Mile Cove; we will most certainly be back.
